Estonian consuls in Russia have issued nearly 60,000 visas for travelling to Estonia in six months, and there has been no noticeable decline in the number of Russian tourists, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.

Russian Association of Travel Agencies estimated that the citizens of Russia travel approximately 20-30% less than during previous years. This trend has in particular affected Latvia and Lithuania, whereas Estonia is in a slightly better position, mostly due to the offers of multiple entry visas and lower plane ticket prices, explained Irina Tyurina, representative of the organisation.

Director of the Consular Aid Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tarmo Punnik said that the number of Russian tourists travelling to Estonia has not decreased significantly lately. “Estonia currently has 12 consuls in Russia, and they have a sufficient workload on their hands,” he said, explaining that in the first half of the year, approximately 60,000 visas to Estonia were issued in Russia. He said that a slight decline has been due to a growth in the number of multiple entry visas. In Pskov, for example, 99% of all visas are multiple entry visas, stated Punnik.
