Grybauskaite: Ukraine might share fate of Belarus
BC, Vilnius, 28.11.2013.Print version
After Kiev has decided not to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union, Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite predicts that hard times are awaiting Ukraine. The competitiveness of the country will decrease, the process of democratization will slow down, while the dependence on Kremlin will increase, says Grybauskaite in her interview with German newspaper Zeit, cites LETA/ELTA.
According to the Lithuanian president, Ukraine might share a fate similar to that of Belarus, which is practically completely dependant on Moscow.
Grybauskaite says that firstly the Ukrainian leaders have to assume the responsibility for not signing the association agreement between Kiev and the EU. Ukraine, she claimed, gave in to Russia's pressure.
The Lithuanian president also accused Russia of blackmail. "Russia's treatment with Ukraine, Moldova or Georgia shows that this country continues to use uncivilized measures," said Grybauskaite.
