LETA was told at the Cabinet of Ministers that in Kucinskis’ words Latvia favors constructive and practical cooperation in areas like border protection, migration and customs, transport, culture and arts. The two sides acknowledged the international situation’s impact on Latvian-Russian relations.

The officials spoke appreciatively of the Latvian-Russian cross-border cooperation program 2014-2020, which is intended to promote economic cooperation between the two countries’ regions and territorial development in the areas of entrepreneurship, environmental protection and cross-border mobility. The Latvian-Russian border demarcation commission was praised for its performance. The demarcation of the Latvian-Russian border is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2017.

The fact that the Latvian-Russian intergovernmental commission has convened for its first meeting after an interval of almost four years was also noted as positive.
