Riga Planning Region agrees on cooperation with Russia's Pskov Oblast

Dagnis Straubergs, council chairman of Riga Planning Region (RPR), and Andrey Turchak, governor of Pskov Oblast, a region in western Russia, have signed an agreement on social, economic, science, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the regions, RPR spokeswoman Inese Ozolina told LETA.

The agreement is intended to facilitate cross-border cooperation on international EU-funded projects.


The cooperation agreement was inked at the 3rd annual International Forum of Border Regions in Pskov. The forum has been held for several years already to promote mutual cooperation between border regions.


Straubergs said that closer cooperation between the regions will benefit residents, entrepreneurs and local governments in RPR who are already eyeing joint projects in various spheres. In the future, this cooperation will enable a much more active implementation of joint projects and promote the regions’ growth.


Riga Planning Region is one of the planning regions of Latvia, situated in the central part of Latvia, in and around the metropolis of Riga and along the shores of the Gulf of Riga.
