Estonia to expel 2 Russian diplomats

Estonia has decided to send two Russian diplomats out of the country. "We can confirm that this incident took place," spokesperson for the Estonian Foreign Ministry Sandra Kamilova told LETA/BNS on Friday.

The Foreign Ministry refused to give out further details.


The two diplomats to be expelled from Estonia are Russian Consul General in Narva Dmitry Kazennov and consul Andrey Surgaev. The Russian embassy has been handed the relevant diplomatic note and the men will have to leave the country.


The Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS) confirmed that they are aware of this.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has promised to respond to the expulsion of two Russian diplomats from Estonia.


"This [expulsion of two Russian diplomats from Estonia] is another unfriendly and unwarranted act, which will not go unanswered," the Russian Foreign Ministry told Interfax on Friday.


It was announced on Friday afternoon that Estonia has decided to send two Russian diplomats, Russian Consul General in Narva Dmitry Kazennov and consul Andrey Surgaev, out of the country.
