Lithuanian Post warns of possible delivery disruptions due to changes in Russia

BC, Vilnius, 28.12.2016.Print version
Russian Post's unilateral decision to change its procedures for handling international parcels may disrupt the delivery of these postal items to Lithuania, Lietuvos Pastas (Lithuanian Post) has warned, reports LETA/BNS.

Russian Post has said that starting on Jan. 1, 2017, all incoming foreign mail will have to go to Mirny, a town in Eastern Siberia more than 4,000 kilometers from Moscow. International mail is currently handled in the capital or other major Russian cities.

"This decision by Russian Post is inadequate. It has not been discussed in advance with international partners -- members of the Universal Postal Union," said Aurimas Ciagus, sales and marketing director at Lietuvos Pastas.

Russia is on the list of the top ten foreign destinations where postal items from Lithuania are sent to.
