Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has presented to former chairman of the board of the Estonian Employers Confederation and chairman of the furniture producer Standard, Enn Veskimagi, the Russian Order of Friendship, reports LETA/BNS.

Veskimagi was decorated for promoting business, economic and humanitarian cooperation. Estonian ambassador to Moscow Arti Hilpus was also present at the ceremony.

"During my years as chairman of the Estonian Employers Confederation we signed an agreement with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and its president Alexander Shokin. During that cooperation one of the most important priorities was entering into a border agreement between Estonia and Russia, the relaunching of which in 2012 is the result of the cooperation between the two organizations. It was also connected to the ratification of the avoidance of double taxation and the investment protection agreements which were in the interests of entrepreneurs on both sides," Veskimagi named the reasons why he was decorated.

"Relations with Russia have to be kept normal since as entrepreneurs we can't only depend on the political image," Veskimagi said.

The Order of Friendship is given to Russian and foreign countries' citizens for their contribution to friendship between peoples, fruitful activity in rapprochement between peoples and for contributions to the development of cultural and friendly relations between countries. Estonians who have previously been granted the decoration are former president Arnold Ruutel, conductor Eri Klas, actress Ita Ever, singer Anu Kaal, former chairman of the Estonian Rescue Board Kalev Timberg and singer Anne Veski.
