Kazakhstan to grant Estonians visa freedom from 2017

Kazakhstan will start allowing Estonian nationals into its territory for a short term stay of up to 30 days without a visa from Jan. 1 next year, writes LETA/BNS.

On Monday the meeting of an Estonian-Kazakh intergovernmental commission on economic, research and technology cooperation took place in Tallinn where relations between the countries, cooperation in the fields of economy, education, transport and agriculture, the EXPO-2017 to be held in Astana, and possibilities for developing tourism were spoken about, spokespeople for the Estonian Foreign Ministry said.


Also the opportunities offered by the Estonian transit and logistics sector were presented to the Kazahk representatives.


Deputy secretary general of the Estonian Foreign Ministry for economic affairs and development cooperation Vaino Reinart, head of the Estonian delegation, said he was glad that Kazakhstan is the country of the Central Asia region that has the most intense cooperation with Estonia. He said that definitely the work of the intergovernmental commission has contributed to this.


The parties expressed their readiness for intensification of cooperation in tourism, which is supported by the decision of Kazakhstan to offer Estonian citizens visa freedom for a stay of up to 30 days starting Jan. 1, 2017.


Reinart said he was pleased that in he field of education and research cooperation between Estonia and Kazakhstan has intensified.


The Kazakh delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vasilenko.


The previous meeting of the intergovernmental commission took place in Astana in 2013.

The aim of the commission's work is to lay the foundations for cooperation of the two countries in transport, energy, tourism, agriculture, education, research and other fields.
