During the accreditation ceremony for Latvian Ambassador to Belarus Martins Virsis on October 5th, Lukashenko said that strengthening political dialogue is one of the most urgent objectives for both countries.

The Belarusian president pointed out that Belarus and Latvia are united not only by a common border, but also long-term relations. "Together, we have created strong trade and investment bridges, as well as regional and foreign partnerships," said Lukashenko.

He also revealed that he met twice with President Raimonds Vejonis in New York to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Latvia is traditionally among the most important trade partner and investors in Belarus, and it is a major transit corridor for the Belarusian export.

In 2014, bilateral trade amounted to almost 655 mln dollars, of which exports exceeded 504 mln dollars. During seven months of 2015, bilateral trade amounted to 410 mln dollars, including exports – 362.1 mln dollars. Belarusian export to Latvia is sufficiently diversified and represents more than 400 positions.
