The meeting's participants agreed that both countries' relations have "historically been excellent", confirmed by both Latvia's huge contribution to the implementation of the Eastern Partnership program for Georgia, as well as improvement in economic cooperation after the official visit, the Presidential Press Service informed LETA.

"We have always supported Georgia on its path and will continue to do so. This is not only a matter of six months during our presidency. You can always count on us," said Berzins, highly appreciating Georgia's achievements in implementation of reforms over the past six months.

Meanwhile, the Georgian prime minister thanked Berzins and other high-ranking Latvian officials for Latvia's strong support, indicating that the country's position has always been "clear and simple."

"Latvia has always been a special partner country to Georgia. With regard to the Eastern Partnership, we must remain pragmatic and realistic, at the same time carrying on our path toward reforms, and moving forward without delay," said Garibashvili.

As reported, the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga is one of the most important events of Latvia's Presidency at the Council of the European Union. The summit brings together highest-ranking officials from 28 EU member states and six Eastern Partnership countries, as well as top EU officials, including the European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
