Delay in pension payments to Russian citizens residing in Latvia

Latvian Television reported last night that there has been a delay in pension payments to Russian citizens residing in Latvia, informs LETA.

Latvian Television reported that the first shock by those who receive Russian pensions in Latvia was the substantial reduction in their pension due to the devaluation of the Russian currency, but now there is also a delay in pension payments.

 

As reported, the Russian State Duma has prepared a bill, which foresees halting pension payments to Russian citizens living abroad, the Russian newspaper ''Izvestia'' reports.

 

The bill, which has already been prepared, foresees halting pension payments to Russian citizens who have lived outside of Russia for more than 183 days in a year.

 

Pension payments can be renewed if the said person lives at least six months in Russia after returning.

 

Pensions will also be halted to persons who have changed their citizenship or taken dual citizenship.

 

According to Russian statistics, in 2014, 265,200 pensioner living abroad received a Russian pension. The total paid out to these persons was RUB 31.4 billion.

 

Most Russian pensioners living abroad are in Germany – 96,900, followed by Israel – 40,500, and Latvia – 21,500.
