Schulz: Latvia will have to put much effort into improving the geo-political situation

Ahead of his visit to Latvia next week, European Parliament (EP) President Martin Schulz said that Latvia will have to put much effort into improving the geo-political situation during its EU presidency, informs LETA.

''Latvia's first presidency of the EU Council will be an excellent opportunity to present itself, and I am confident Latvia will utilize this opportunity and fulfill its responsibilities at the highest level. Furthermore, the geo-political situation at the moment remains complicated, and Latvia will have to put much effort into improving this situation,'' said Schulz.

 

As reported, Schulz will visit Latvia next Thursday, December 4.

 

Schulz, who also heads the Conference of Committee Chairs, will arrive in Latvia together with chairpersons to participate in a conference where Latvia's upcoming EU presidency will be discussed.

 

Schulz will meet with Latvian President Andris Berzins, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity), and Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (VL-TB/LNNK).
