Latvia and Uzbekistan discussed events during Presidency in EU

From 28 to 29 October, the State Secretary of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Andrejs Pildegovics is on a visit to Uzbekistan to take part in an international conference in the city of Urgench entitled: "Development of Cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin to Mitigate the Environmental Catastrophe", reports BC Latvian MFA.

During his visit, Andrejs Pildegovics met with the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, and discussed the development of the bilateral relations, events to be held during Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and other foreign policy issues.

 

The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan appreciated Latvia’s readiness during its Presidency to highlight questions that are important for Central Asian countries: rural development, environmental protection, the enhancement of educational opportunities, transport and transit.

 

Foreign Minister Kamilov said that Uzbekistan regarded Latvia as a reliable partner for cooperation and emphasised the necessity of promoting an objective understanding among the European countries on the processes in the Central Asian region, as well as targeting new projects to be pursued within frameworks that Latvia is helping to develop.


The Minister and State Secretary concurred that there is a positive dynamic in the bilateral relations and that the potential for expanding trade and business should be explored with greater intensity.

 

At the International Conference "Development of cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin to mitigate the environmental catastrophe" in Urgench, Latvia is also represented by the Cleantech Latvia association, and the company, Karme Filtrs.

 

During his visit in Tashkent, Andrejs Pildegovics also met with the Head of the EU Delegation and the United States Ambassador, and gave an interview to “Uzreport TV”.
