Lithuanian PM calls for cooperation between Nordic, Baltic countries and Japan

Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius attended the 10th Summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Italy. Together with other representatives of Nordic and Baltic countries he met with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Lithuanian PM emphasised that the demand for innovation dictates a new direction of co-operation between the two regions.

 

The Lithuanian prime minister introduced the development of innovation in the region and its impact on economic growth. The prime minister noted the importance of innovation, smart technologies and biotechnology which has great potential. Butkevicius said that time has come to encourage co-operation in science sector among the Nordic and Baltic countries, and Japan.

 

The head of Government proposed to consider implementation of joint projects based on private and public partnership in areas that are the driving force of the global economy.

 

For example, life sciences, innovation in engineering and medical diagnostics, development of electric vehicles and smart city projects.
