On 9 September, the Foreign Minister of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, met with the President of the Management Committee of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Dr. Werner Hoyer, and Vice-Presidents, Pim van Ballekom and Wilhelm Molterer, reports Latvian MFA.

The Minister informed the EIB officials
about Latvia’s
preparations for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union,
highlighting some of the priorities – for example, relations with the Eastern
Partnership and Central Asian countries.
Foreign Minister Rinkevics also told
about Latvia’s
plans in the digital sector, including the Digital Agenda Assembly to be held
during the Latvian Presidency. The Minister thanked the EIB for its support in
the organisation of the Eastern Partnership Business Forum and stressed the
importance of the business forum on implementation of the priorities of Latvia’s
EU Presidency.
During discussions, it was agreed
that cooperation in the Eastern Partnership countries and Central
Asia will continue with a focus on infrastructure and energy
projects important for the region. Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and the
EIB President shared the perspective that growth and competitiveness should be
promoted in the European Union, including through projects in the digital
sector.
