Aboltina: close relations between Baltics and Germany is Latvia's priority

Print versionSaeima Speaker Solvita Aboltina (Unity) yesterday thanked the visiting President of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert for Germany's solidarity with and support for Latvia, and stressed that close relations between the Baltic States and Germany is a priority in Latvia's foreign affairs.

Saeima's Press Service informed LETA that Lammert emphasized the importance of the events of the Baltic Way that took place 25 years ago, which are rooted deep within the European memory, serving as a uniting factor and reminding about the values that bring all European nations together.
Germany is Latvia's strategic ally, which was also confirmed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit in Latvia earlier this week, Aboltina said, stressing that it was a positive proof that the security of the Baltic region is in the interest of Europe.
At the same time she said that close relations between the Baltic States and Germany is a priority of Latvia's foreign affairs.
