It is clear that by annexing Crimea and helping the separatists in Ukraine, Russia has destabilized the situation, nevertheless, there are a few indications that Russia could change its stand on this matter, Latvian Ambassador to NATO Maris Riekstins said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" this morning, informs LETA.

"I can also confirm that NATO has plans on how to act in case the situation in Ukraine escalates, but the details of these plans will not be revealed by anyone," Riekstins said.

When asked about the possibility of permanent presence of NATO troops in the Baltic States, Riekstins said that work on several models is continuing, and discussions on the most suitable option are still in progress, nevertheless, the final decision will be made during the coming NATO summit in Great Britain in September.
