"In terms of economy, safety and politics, the issue of relations between Spain and the US as well as relations between the whole EU and the US will be very important next year. Free trade agreement is of vital importance to Spain," said Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

Meanwhile, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius expressed hope that such issues as negotiations over free trade with the US would be decided in a constructive manner, not based on emotions.

"We must act in a way that would not harm important transatlantic relations," said Linkevicius.
