GRECO acknowledged Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 21.10.2013.Print version
The Council of Europe anti-corruption entity GRECO revealed a report that evaluates how Estonia has fulfilled the recommendations given to it, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

GRECO praised Estonia since the law amendments made in Estonia for fighting corruption correspond to the organisation's recommendations. Estonia has fulfilled 14 recommendations out of 17.

"At the same time, the provisions of the Punitive Code on trading with influence have to be revised, but that is written into the new anti-corruption strategy and the work is already under way," said justice minister Hanno Pevkur. "The only recommendation that hasn’t been implemented yet is connected to making the donations of independent candidates public, but that topic is also in works already," said Pevkur.

GRECO or Group of States Against Corruption has 49 member states, Estonia joined GRECO in 1999.
