Lithuania urges Germany to achieve EU’s common goals

On 11 June, in Berlin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, stressed the importance of Germany’s support of Lithuania, as this country is about to take over the Presidency of the EU Council, and called for push in the next six months to achieve important goals which were set for the EU as a whole, informed BC Lithuania’s MFA.

“Lithuania is visible, audible and appreciated in Germany. Once again we have received support to our Presidency’s goal of creating a credible, growing, and open Europe in the future. When building such Europe, Lithuania and Germany look at one direction,” Linkevičius said.

 

The Foreign Minister presented priorities for the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council, discussed topical issues related to the Eastern Partnership, and Lithuania’s Eurozone aspirations.

 

In Berlin, Linkevičius also held meetings with the Federal Chancellor’s Advisor on Foreign and Security Policy Christoph Heusgen, Adviser on European Affairs to German Chancellor Angela Merkel Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, and the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Bundestag Ruprecht Polenz.

 

At the Bundestag and the Representation of the European Commission, the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy presented priorities for the incoming Presidency of the EU Council and all the most important pending tasks.

 

Germany is one of Lithuania’s key partners in the EU and NATO, the second largest trading partner and the third-largest investor in Lithuania.
