German ambassador confirms Berlin's support to Latvia's goals of joining OECD and eurozone

Today, Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) met with German Ambassador to Latvia Andrea Wiktorin, receiving conformation that Berlin will support Latvia's goals of joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the eurozone.

The ambassador pointed out that Germany will be ready to support Latvia's accession to the eurozone when Latvia will fulfill the Maastricht criteria, LETA was informed by Dombrovskis' press secretary Martins Panke.

 

Dombrovskis and Wiktorin agreed that Latvian-German bilateral relations are excellent and the ambassador confirmed that, during her term of office, she will strive to establish even closer ties and look for new cooperation opportunities. Dombrovskis emphasized that the presence of German companies in Latvia is highly important for the country and Latvia is also interested in attracting new investments and expanding economic cooperation.

 

When discussing Latvian-German cooperation in the European Union, the sides agreed that, taking into account the current problems in separate eurozone countries, it is important to protect the jointly achieved progress in mutual integration, replacing heated public discussions on the future of the eurozone with pragmatic and convincing solutions.
