Lithuanian, UK's heads of diplomacy discuss EU development, cooperation

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Azubalis and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom William Hague who came with an official visit to Vilnius discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, issues of the European Union (EU) agenda and the partnership in the international arena.

"The United Kingdom had never recognized the annexation of Lithuania, the troops of both countries were deployed in Kosovo missions in Iraq and today in Afghanistan. We also have great untapped potential in bilateral political and economic relations" says Azubalis.

 Both ministers underlined the increasingly active role of the political, economic and cultural relations that the large Lithuanian community in the UK helps to develop.

 The Lithuanian minister drew attention to the rapidly growing volume of the bilateral trade and hoped that British businesses would use the opportunities of investment in Lithuania more actively.

The perspectives of the EU's multiannual financial framework 2014-2020 were also discussed in the meeting, Wednesday.

The head of the British diplomacy will meet with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite and Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, in Vilnius, Wednesday. He will also participate in the annual convention of the heads of Lithuanian diplomatic missions, reported ELTA/LETA.
