The state lost 18.7% of the cases and the outcome of the rest of the cases cannot be considered either positive or negative for the state.
The state had by 14% less court cases in 2011 than in 2010. In 2010, a court decision came in force in 1,237 cases, of which 58.6% or 725 were ruled in favour of the state, reported LETA.
"The court cases number cannot be reduced to zero ever since it is everyone's Constitutional right to dispute what bothers him. But it is worth while making an effort to reduce the cases that can be avoided with good work," said justice minister Kristen Michal.
The minister said that 80.5% of all court cases that the state lost were administrative proceedings solutions, i.e. annulling an administrative act of a public authority or compensating damages caused by a public authority. These can be avoided on the future, Michal said.
