European Commissioner Rehn welcomes Estonian Supreme Court's ESM decision

Print versionEuropean Economic Commissioner Olli Rehn said in a statement that the Estonian Supreme Court decision on the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) on Thursday is a welcome and right decision, Postimees Online reports.

"I welcome today's decision of the Supreme Court that paves the way to approval of ESM by Estonia. ESM will be a more powerful and convincing financial field guard to the euro area," Rehn said.
Rehn said that fast implementation of ESM will strengthen the efforts of the EU to improve the situation of the euro area. "Just like the Supreme Court said, it is in the interests of every member state, including Estonia."
The Estonian Supreme Court decided today not to satisfy the complaint of the Legal Chancellor Inderk Teder who claimed that ESM contradicts the Estonian Constitution, reported LETA.
