PM Dombrovskis and Ambassador of Denmark discussed cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic countries

On Wednesday, August 25, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met Uffe Otto Wolffhechel, Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia within the framework of his farewell visit. During the meeting, the sides discussed the economic situation in Latvia, bilateral cooperation, as well as cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic countries, informed BC deputy head of communication department at State Chancellery Laine Kučinska.

The Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia expressed his recognition to the Government for stabilization of the economic situation and implementation of structural reforms. The Prime Minister informed that the macroeconomic indices are indicative of the gradual stabilization of the economy, because the gross domestic product in first two quarters of 2010 show positive trend of increase. The Prime Minister mentioned that the industrial production and export are the cornerstones for restoration of economic growth. In Q2 of 2010, the industrial production has increased by 12.1%, while export by 30.3%.

 

As to Latvia’s potential to attract new investment projects, the Ambassador of Denmark acknowledged the great interest of large Danish investors in business development in Latvia. The officials discussed also individual cases when obstacles were created to implementation of certain investment projects. The Prime Minister emphasized that the development of investment environment and investment attraction are an important instruments for economic growth and development of a structure for sustainable development.

 

Within the framework of the meeting, both sides discussed the cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic countries expressing the hope that the report prepared by the former Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia V.Birkavs and former Minister for Defence of Denmark S.Gade will enhance the optimization in the NB8 cooperation format, thus strengthening the integration and solidarity of the NB8 region.

 

At the conclusion of the visit, the Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia expressed his gratification for both countries’ historical and friendly relations. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude the Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
