Lithuania's Cabinet to consider extending border controls until mid-September

Lithuania's Cabinet will on Wednesday consider extending border controls at airports and seaport until September 14.

he Ministry of the Interior is proposing extending the existing controls in response to the existing coronavirus situation and the tendency.


The existing border controls in Lithuania are set to expire on August 15. If there are extended, people will further undergo checks at international airport and the state seaport in Klaipeda.


The Baltic states opened their borders to each others' citizens in the middle of May but Lithuania stopped document checks on the Latvian border in early June.


The land border with Poland was opened in the middle of June.


But more border guards and police officers are deployed on the borders with Poland and Latvia and arrivals undergo more thorough checks due to the deteriorating coronavirus situation.


People coming from Poland are not required to self-isolate for two weeks.
