Lithuanian Railways suspends passenger train service to Poland
BC, Vilnius, 10.08.2020.Print version
Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) is temporarily suspending its train service to Poland after the government introduced on Monday a mandatory 14-day self-isolation requirement for people returning from the neighboring country, informed LETA/BNS.
LTG Link, the state railway group's passenger transportation arm, said the move was to reduce potential risks.
The service between Kaunas and Bialystok has not been popular among travelers recently as most passengers now prefer to travel within Lithuania, it noted.
Relaunched on July 31, the route had only around 10 passengers per trip on average. Trains ran twice daily on Saturdays and Sunday, and once on Monday, LTG Link told.
Poland, along with the Netherlands, Iceland, Cyprus and Turkey, was added to Lithuania's list of coronavirus-affected countries on Monday.
