Latvia and Armenia are interested in cooperation within the European Union (EU) Eastern Partnership program, as well as in information technology and agriculture, the President of Latvia Egils Levits and the President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian confirmed during a telephone conversation today.

As LETA was informed by the Presidential Chancery, Levits and Sarkissian discussed their experience in controlling the new Covid-19 outbreak in their respective countries, as well as discussed future plans for cooperation.

The two sides welcomed the EU's support to Armenia during the Covid-19 crisis, which has hit the country hard. President Sarkissian also emphasized that "Latvia is a small but important partner in the EU" and thanked Latvia for its particularly active support for the EU's Eastern Partnership policy, which includes dialogue between the EU and Armenia.

Sarkissian also invited Levits to visit Armenia to work on further expanding cooperation between the two countries.
