A fire broke at the Berlin Tor Hotel overnight, where a group of Latvian construction workers were staying.

Arnis Laus, board member of the Easy Building construction company, told LETA that ten construction workers from Latvia lost all of their personal belongings in the fire.

''The fire broke out at 10:30 p.m., and our construction workers barely got out of the building. Initially, everyone thought it was a false alarm, but when smoke appeared in the corridors it was clear the building was on fire. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the fire,'' he said.

He said that the construction workers were residing on the second and fourth floors of the building, while the fire broke out on the third floor.

''All of those residing on the fourth floor lost their personal belongings in the fire,'' Laus said, adding that approximately 300 persons were evacuated from the building.

''We booked another hotel for our workers today. We will let them rest for a day as well, before returning to work,'' he said.

Easy Building is currently working on two construction projects in Berlin.

He added that the company will also compensate the workers who lost their belongings materially.
