Where almost all the people granted international protection by Latvia under the European Union migrant distribution plan have left the country, none of such people relocated to Estonia have left, reports LETA/BNS.

Triin Raag, head of international protection policy at the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs, told on Tuesday that none of the people admitted by Estonia under the EU plan of action on migration have left.

"To all the people and families admitted by us a support person has been assigned, they are provided with an Estonian language training program and have gone through an adaptation program. Their entry into the labor market is supported by the Unemployment Insurance Fund. Among these individuals there is a big percentage of children, of whom all children of school age are attending school," Raag said.

Of the 23 asylum seekers relocated to Latvia as part of the European Union's refugee relocation program 21 persons are already in Germany, Latvia's LTV television reported on Monday.

Latvia has admitted altogether 69 asylum seekers under the EU relocation scheme. The first group of asylum seekers was transferred to Latvia in early February this year.

The Latvian Citizenship and Migration Affairs Office has so far granted refugee status and alternative protection to 23 people.

Latvia initially places the people arriving in the country as part of the EU relocation program at the center for asylum seekers at Mucenieki where they have to stay until necessary procedures have been conducted and the decision about their status made.

Unlike Latvia, Estonia carries out necessary procedures before the asylum seekers arrive in Estonia and the people admitted by Estonia are taken to a dwelling initially chosen for them by the authorities right after arrival.

The first so-called quota refugees arrived in Estonia in April this year and 47 such people have arrived here by now.
