The European Parliament's (EP) Committee on Budgetary Control on Monday gave a go-ahead to the appointment to Lithuania's Finance Minister Rimantas Sadzius as a member of the European Court of Auditors, informs LETA/BNS.

His designation was supported by 16 members of the committee, while three were against. The entire European Parliament will vote on the proposal on June 6-9, it said in the press release.

In response to the questions from the committee's members, Sadzius said that the three key decisions he was involved in throughout his career included adoption of the euro in Lithuania, creation of the Banking Union and development of a more efficient management and audit of EU funds in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian finance minister emphasized his full independence during his term in the European Court of Auditors.

The term of Lithuanian representative at the European Court of Auditors, Rasa Budbergyte, expired earlier in May.
