Parliament-level cooperation between Lithuania, Poland becomes very active

Cooperation between Lithuania and Poland at the parliamentary level is becoming very active, Seimas Speaker Loreta Grauziniene said after meeting with Maria Koc, deputy marshal of the Polish Senate, on May 2nd, reports LETA/BNS.

A delegation led by Koc was to attend on Monday evening a ceremony marking the 225th anniversary of the Constitution of May 3, 1791 of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, regarded as Europe's first codified national constitution, at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius.

 

Koc's visit to Vilnius followed Grauziniene's visit to Poland last month to mark the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland.

 

The Polish politician raised the issue of education of the Polish ethnic minority in Lithuania during her meeting with Grauziniene.

 

"The Polish side raised issues regarding ethnic minorities' education in Lithuania. We exchanged views and agreed to continue to work on these issues, seeking a compromise and solving problems," the Seimas speaker said.

 

When asked whether their agreed or differed in their positions on the situation of the Polish ethnic minority in Lithuania, Grauziniene said that "the meeting took place in a very constructive atmosphere, that of mutual understanding."
