Responding to complaints by Lithuanian nationals living in Germany over recurring instances when the Soviet Union is listed as place of birth in documents issued by German officials, the Embassy of Lithuania in Germany appealed to the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, reported BC Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy of Lithuania in Germany.

On 22 October, the Embassy of Lithuania in Germany received a diplomatic note from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, informing that Germany had never recognized the annexation of the Baltic States de jure by the USSR. In the light of this provision, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany called on the Federal Ministry of the Interior to notify all the competent German authorities that issued documents.

On 16 October, the Federal Ministry of the Interior in turn appealed to the competent authorities of the German federal states, which were authorized to notify all services responsible for registering or declaration of personal data.

Therefore, in accordance with the notification of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, from now on German authorities should not enter the Soviet Union in documents issued to Lithuanian nationals as place of birth.
