Latvian PM: the relations with Germany are great

On Wednesday, September 2, Laimdota Straujuma, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Rolf E. Schütte, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Latvia, who paid an introductory visit, reported BC press secretary of the Prime Minister Aiva Rozenberga.

The Prime Minister highly acknowledged the outstanding bilateral relations of Latvia and Germany in various areas, as well as cooperation within the EU and NATO. Laimdota Straujuma was thankful for Germany’s contribution in NATO by ensuring patrolling of the air space of the Baltic States and for presence of German soldiers in Latvia on a rotational basis.

 

The officials also discussed recent developments in relation to the EU agenda.

 

The Prime Minister emphasised that she expects steadily increasing activity in the area of bilateral economic cooperation and acknowledged close contacts in education – Latvia hosts more than 800 students from Germany. Laimdota Straujuma expressed interest in more extensive cooperation in the area of vocational education.
