Cretu emphasized that the Cohesion Policy is behind millions of projects that are implemented in several European member states. She confirmed that she will continue working with the member states in order to get the best results from the Cohesion Policy, adding that Latvia can be considered an example with regard to implementation of the Cohesion Policy.

The commissioner promised to do everything she can in order to increase the funding and investments for strategic projects, which would benefit the interests of Latvian residents.

Meanwhile, in discussing Europe's long-term growth, Latvian Finance Minister Janis Reirs (Unity) said that each European state must increase productivity.

He said that "in the current economic situation, European residents are expecting from the Cohesion Policy more than ever," adding that because of this, it is important to make sure that each invested euro provide an increased value added to the residents' welfare and economic growth.
