Georgian president: Latvia perfectly understands the complicated geopolitical situation in Europe

Georgia expects a clear message and conception from the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, not only regarding the international problems, but also matters related to Georgia, this according to Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili during a meeting with Latvian President Andris Berzins yesterday, cites LETA.

Before the discussion, Margvelashvili thanked Berzins for the warm welcome in Latvia, indicating that both countries' relations are based on true friendship. He added though that it can be deepened by increasing cooperation between the two states.

 

When asked about the current situation in Georgia and Ukraine, Margvelashvili said that Latvia, as the presiding country of the Council of the European Union, perfectly understands the complicated geopolitical situation that currently dominates Europe. He also indicated that Riga will be a wonderful place for discussing various important issues during the Eastern Partnership Summit, with focus on visa facilitation between the EU and Georgia.

 

Berzins confirmed that the issue of visas is an important issue. The president pointed out that Latvia is ready to assist Georgia in meeting all the necessary requirements.

 

Berzins also said that strengthening ties with the Eastern Partnership countries is one of the priorities for the Latvian Presidency.

 

As reported, cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine – is a priority of Latvia's foreign policy.
