Ilves said that we are all shocked by the terrorist attack in Paris against our values and freedoms as 12 people in the Charlie Hebdo satire newspaper were killed, and the tragic events in Paris continue. According to him, it reminds us once again, how important it is for Europe to stand united, firm and unconditionally for freedom of expression and opinion as freedom of the media is an integral part of our shared values on which democratic Europe is based.

Speaking of European security, the officials agreed that the sanctions against Russia that annexed the Crimea and supports armed separatists in Easter Ukraine must remain in force until Russia continues to endanger Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. "We cannot yet speak of the reset policy regarding Russia," said President Ilves.

Ilves and Tusk confuirmed inevitability of launch of political and economic reforms in Ukraine and European Union's continued, visible and tangible support for Ukraine.

Ilves stressed that EU partner states Moldova and Georgia also need our continued support.

The two officials also discussed developing European Union common digital market.
