Welcoming the distinguished guest to Latvia, the Latvian president emphasized that the situation in Latvia was clearly characterized by political, economic, and internal stability, which also leads to believe that Latvia will hold its EU Presidency successfully, LETA was informed by the Presidential Press Service.

When describing Latvia's vision as regards to the priorities for its Presidency of the EU Council, the president of Latvia pointed out that Latvia, as an EU member state, had purposefully worked on expanding cooperation with the countries of the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia in recent years, which would be very important for the EU as a whole now and for the future.

The officials also discussed matters related to the EU's economic growth and investments, the development of a common energy policy, and Latvia's interests in these matters.

''I can say that our mutual relations are truly excellent,'' the Latvian president said after today's meeting with Juncker, adding that the EC president praised the work of the Latvian government.

''The EC president said that he does not intend to be a teacher, and that he intends to listen how Latvia has prepared for its EU Presidency,'' the president said. ''It was a very positive meeting,'' Berzins added.
