Lithuania does not know what treasures are stored in Lithuanian museums because around 3 million of showpieces were evaluated by a symbolical LTL 1 million (EUR 0.3 million), informs LETA/ELTA, referring to Respublika.

The National Audit Office which performs state audits all ministries stresses that the Ministry of Culture has improved in managing state budget funds. However, the accounting of cultural and art goods is very poor. "The consolidated financial reports of the Ministry of Culture could be called impeccable. But there is a problem that needs urgent actions. The ministry must determinate the actual value of cultural good. The showpieces at museums is planned to be evaluated by late 2020. If the ministry does not speed it up the accounting of cultural goods will continue to fail to show the actual financial situation," said Auditor General Giedre Svediene.
