U.S. Embassy to thank Latvian artists, who contributed artwork to the arts in Embassies collection

On Wednesday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m., the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, Judith Garber, will host a reception to thank the many Latvian artists who contributed artwork to the Arts in Embassies collection, and will also introduce the artistic community to the artwork at the Embassy and collection catalogue. The reception will include guests from the arts, culture, academic, and governmental spheres.

 

U.S. Embassy Riga will also be honoring Latvian-American artist Ilze Aviks, who is visiting Latvia for the first time to conduct educational programming and outreach. Ilze Aviks has maintained a studio in Durango, Colorado for more than 30 years. During the last 15 years she has taught Studio and Art Theory courses at Fort Lewis College and has been a Visiting Artist at many universities including Eastern Illinois University, North Carolina State University, Kansas University, and the Kansas City Art Institute. She has conducted workshops in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Aviks has contributed essays and reviews to Fiberarts, Surface Design Journal, and Telos Publications (Susan Lordi Marker Monograph and Art Textiles of the World: United States). On May 16 at 3:00 p.m., Ms. Aviks will give a lecture entitled “Autobiography” at the Art Academy of Latvia (Auditorium 19).
