The Latvian national men's team, with still a slim chance of advancing to the quarterfinals, played uninspired hockey for two periods against Denmark at the IIHF World Championship, losing 0:2. The Latvians picked up the action in the third, but the puck simply could not find the goal box, writes LETA.

Maris Jurcers tended the goal in the third period, taking over for the injured Edgars Masalskis.

In Group S, Russia is in first place with 18 points, Sweden is in second with 15 points, followed by the Czechs with 11; Norway is in fourth with 10, followed by Latvia with 6, Denmark now has 4, Germany – 3, Italy – 2 points.

Only the first four teams in each of the two groups moves on to quarterfinal action Thursday.

This evening, the Latvian national men's ice hockey team will close this year's Ice Hockey World Championships against Sweden.

The match will be played in Stockholm and will begin at 9:15 p.m. (Latvian time). The match will also be broadcast live on TV3.

Sweden has already booked a place in the quarterfinals.
