PrintLatvian soldier injured in Afghanistan returns home

BC, Riga, 16.04.2012.

The Latvian soldier who was injured in Afghanistan on April 12 could return to Latvia in the near future, Defense Minister Artis Pabriks (Unity) told the LNT morning show "900 sekundes" today.

The minister emphasized that the accident was due to inattention and it was not connected with military operations. The soldier suffered minor burns and will most likely return to Latvia soon, writes LETA.

Pabriks explained that Latvian soldiers were not involved in the recent skirmishes in Kabul's center.

As reported, last Thursday, a Latvian soldier was hospitalized after suffering "non-military related injuries" in Afghanistan's Faryab Province.

The soldier was immediately evacuated to a military hospital in Maymana, later on - transferred to a regional hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif, where he received treatment.
