BC, Tallinn, 26.03.2012.Print version

This weekend, the Let's Do It! World Cleanup 2012 action, initiated by Estonians, was officially launched in Slovenia and Portugal and should altogether cover at least 85 states in the quest for a cleaner world this year, Estonian National Broadcasting reports.

Initiator of the Let's Do It! campaign Rainer Nõlvak, who was observing the event in Slovenia, said that around 250,000 people were participating in cleaning the nature there on Saturdaym, writes LETA.

Nõlvak said that when they were planning the first Let's Do It! campaign in Estonia years ago, they could not have even dreamt that the imitative would expand in the world so greatly. On Sunday, cleanup took place in Tunisia, and then nearly 90 more states till the action completes in September.

The first “Let’s Do It!” campaign cleaning day took place in Estonia in 2008. Since then a similar volunteer event has taken place every year, with a different focus. The first event of the campaign brought together 50,000 people in May 2008 or 4% of population and the initiators of the project think that the same share would suffice to clean up the world.
