BC, Riga, 02.06.2008.Print version

At the moment, discussions with several countries are taking place to show the documentary ''The Soviet Story'' abroad, LETA was informed by the film's producer Kristaps Valdnieks.

At first, the desire of the documentary's creators was to show the film in Latvia, however, work is currently taking place to distribute the film abroad, said Valdnieks.

Valdnieks also admitted that there is much interest in the documentary in Latvia, that is why the ''Riga'' cinema has decided to extend the showing of the film until June 10.

As reported, the documentary pays attention to and analyzes the Ukrainian famine (1932/33), the Katyn massacre of Polish officers (1940), the SS-KGB partnership, and Soviet mass deportations and medical experiments carried out on prisoners in the Gulag camps.

All of the above mentioned topics are analyzed together with unique footage from archives from various different countries, and accounts from Russian and Western experts and people who have survived communist repression. The author of the film studied the subject and collected materials for the film over a period of 10 years.

More information about the documentary can be seen on the film's official web-site "www.sovietstory.com".

On June 17, honoring the memory of victims of the Soviet regime, Latvian Television Channel One (LTV) will broadcast the documentary.
