Estonian rescuers will help Pakistani people
Print versionEstonian foreign ministry supports sending two Rescue Board experts to help out Pakistan that is suffering from severe floods, LETA/Delfi reported.
The Estonian experts will go to the city of Sukkur as members of the interactional team to erect a base camp for UN humanitarian aid workers.
Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet said that Pakistan is facing the worst humanitarian and natural catastrophe of the state’s recent history. Estonian experts go to Pakistan in the framework of the international humanitarian partnership at the request of the UN humanitarian affairs coordination bureau, he said.
Right after the catastrophe in Pakistan occurred Estonia supported Pakistan via the World Food Programme with 1 mln kroons worth of food aid. Estonian rescue team member Gert Teder was in Pakistan as part of the EU evaluation and coordination team.
