Kristina Smigun-Vahi wins Estonia's first medal at the Olympics – silver

Estonia won its first medal of the Vancouver Winter Olympics Monday, with cross-country skier Kristina Smigun-Vahi coming in second in the 10km freestyle race, informs LETA.

 

The competition was won by Swede Charlotte Kalla, who finished in 24 minutes and 58.4 seconds, with twice gold medalist at the Turin Games – Smigun-Vehi, finishing 6.6 seconds behind.

 

Third place was won by Norwegian skier Marit Bjoergen, who finished 15.9 seconds behind the winner.

 

The only Latvian representative in the women's cross-country skiing competition, Anete Brice, finished in 70th place, five minutes and 53.4 seconds behind the winner.

 

This was 18-year-old Brice's only race of the current Olympics.

 

78 athletes took part in the competition.
