PrintDaugavpils "Dinaburg" FC kicked out of Latvian championship

BC, Riga, 06.10.2009.

The Latvian Football Federation's (LFF) board, at a meeting Monday, decided to eject the Daugavpils "Dinaburg" football club from further play in the Latvian championship, writes LETA.

This in connection with the reality that team members regularly bet on games in parlors and have manipulated game outcomes. This has continued despite multiple warnings and ejection from the Baltic Football League.

Also, Daugavpils "Dinaburg" President Oleg Gavrilov and Head Coach Tamaz Pertiya have been disqualified from Latvian football for life.

In the Latvian "LMT Virsliga" Championship this season, Daugavpils "Dinaburg" was in fourth place with 49 points in 26 games.

LFF will have more detailed information at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. ("Nordea" Headquarters, Kr. Valdemâra Street 62).

Gavrilovs' connection to betting was first suspected in 2005; in 2007 – the club's games were removed from game lists in parlors.

In March 2007, Daugavpils "Dinaburg" was kicked out of the Baltic Football League following a suspicious 0:2 game against Narva "Trans" when both goals were scored in the game's final minute. The Estonian mass media called the game "fixed". Video footage from the game showed glaring errors and/or passive play on the part of "Dinaburg" team members.

Suspicion arose when bookmaker odds jumped suddenly in favor of the Estonian club just a few minutes before the game got under way.
