Marking the 90th anniversary of the Latvian Army, the National Armed Forces' Staff Orchestra will march in downtown Riga on Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m. along the following route: Pils Square – Dome Square – Tirgonu Street – Kalku Street – Town Hall Square – Kalku Street – Freedom Monument, reports LETA.

After the orchestra reaches the Freedom Monument at about 1:20 p.m., a pop music concert will take place that will conclude with a parade shortly before 2 p.m., as the Armed Forces' representative, First Lieutenant Inese Kocote informed LETA.

Armed forces' orchestra marches and concerts in downtown Riga last summer attracted considerable interest of Rigans and guests of Riga.

Because of the great response, the Armed Forces' orchestras will again offer performance in Riga's Old Town this summer. The first such concert this year took place on May 21, followed by performances on June 4 and June 18. The next parades and marches are scheduled for July 16, July 30, August 27 and September 10, all will start at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

The Latvian Army was formed on July 19, 1919; General Davis Simansons was appointed the first Commander of the Latvian Army.

Various events will take place in all regions of Latvia this year to mark the 90th anniversary of the Armed Forces with military parades, Armed Forces orchestra concerts, commemorative ceremonies, sports events, conferences and others.
