Construction of Estonia's Victory Monument ends

The builder is scheduled to hand over the compound of the Victory Monument in Tallinn's Vabaduse (Freedom) Square to the Ministry of Defense on Friday.

 

On Friday the builder will hand over the territory of the Victory Monument to the ministry, work on the monument itself was finished at the end of April.

 

"In principle, the construction work has been completed now," spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense Meeli Hunt told BNS.

 

In Friday's handover, Urmas Piirsoo, construction manager of the compound's main contractor Celander Ehitus, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense Riho Terras will unveil an information tablet providing information about the monument.

 

As part of the works on the compound, the eastern side of the Ingermanland Bastion was restored and brought to order, a ceremonial ground complete with a flight of steps consisting of 21 steps laid out, as well as numerous decorative shrubs and flowers planted.

 

The monument's opening ceremony will start a1 11 p.m. on June 23 and the monument will be unveiled in the first minutes of June 23.
