Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kolvart announced on Wednesday that instead of the fireworks show and concert at Tallinn's Freedom Square on New Year's eve, fireworks shows will be staged in different parts of the city and there will be no concert, in order to avoid large gatherings of people, informs LETA/BNS.

"We understand it that large events cannot be staged. The concert at Freedom Square will not take place this year. We find, however, that a fireworks show must nevertheless take place, but in a manner whereby people are maximally dispersed," Kolvart told a press conference.

Thus, instead of a single show at Freedom Square, fireworks shows will take place at five or six locations in city districts.

"We wish for the fireworks show to be as environment-friendly as possible," Kolvart said, adding that the city government wants to keep up the sprits of the people at the difficult time.
